On April 6, on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the 2026 Ruiyuan Science and Technology Award Ceremony and the SJTU Science Night were grandly held at Jingjing Hall on the Minhang campus. Xense Robotics founder and CEO Dr. Ma Daolin received the 3rd Ruiyuan Young Scientist Award.
130 Years of SJTU, Science and Innovation Crowned
The Ruiyuan Science and Technology Award was established in 2022 by SJTU alumnus Chen Guangming, founder of Ruiyuan Fund, together with his alma mater, to recognize SJTU people who have made outstanding contributions in basic research, applied research and frontier scientific exploration. This year's Science Night brought together academicians and experts from home and abroad, university leaders, faculty, students, alumni and guests from all walks of life.
As the founder and chief scientist of Xense Robotics, Ma Daolin has always been committed to transforming frontier scientific research achievements into implementable industrial technologies, leading the team to break through core challenges in multimodal tactile perception and dexterous robot manipulation, helping robots truly "feel" the physical world.
Deep Research, Entrepreneurial Original Aspiration
Dr. Ma Daolin is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean & Civil Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with a PhD from Peking University and postdoctoral research experience at MIT. He has long conducted research around the core question of "how robots can perceive and manipulate dexterously like humans," overcoming multiple key technologies, with results published in top international journals and conferences, and has received the ICRA Best Paper Award.
Based on long-term technical accumulation and research in dexterous robot manipulation and multimodal tactile perception, Ma Daolin founded Xense Robotics in 2024, translating years of academic accumulation into industry, dedicated to giving robots tactile and dexterous manipulation capabilities comparable to humans.
In just two years since its founding, Xense Robotics has gained strong recognition from capital and the market. The company's cumulative financing exceeds RMB 100 million, with investors including Fucap Capital, Li Auto, Hillhouse Ventures, Oriza Holdings, Gobi Partners and other top institutions.
At the same time, the company has received multiple authoritative certifications including Plug and Play China Global Open Innovation Top 100, Top 50 Most Concept-Validation-Capable Startup Companies, WRC China's TOP 30 Most Growth-Potential Robot Companies, and L'Oréal China BigBang Co-creation Program Winning Enterprise.
